Role coverage

Heads of recruitment: who we cover

Heads of recruitment translate a club's playing model into a target list. They are the bridge between scouting and the sporting director.

The recruitment lead owns the shortlist and the process behind it: profile definitions per position, data filters, scout coverage, and the order in which targets get approached. When a club says a player "doesn't fit the profile", this is the person who wrote the profile.

This role has grown fastest in the last decade, especially in England, Germany and Belgium, and is often the club's most data-literate contact. A pitch that arrives with clean numbers and honest context performs far better here than a persuasive email.

Coverage is thinner than for sporting directors because many clubs still have no dedicated recruitment lead — where the role does not exist, the sporting director or chief scout carries it.

Heads of recruitment: common questions

What is the difference between a head of recruitment and a sporting director?

The recruitment lead builds and defends the target list; the sporting director decides which targets get money and negotiates the deal.

Why do fewer clubs appear in this hub?

Because the role itself is less common. We only publish records for titles a club actually uses, rather than inventing a recruitment contact where none exists.

What format do they prefer?

Short written profiles with verifiable data, contract end date and salary expectation. Most maintain their own database and will paste your player straight into it.
